Kazuya Kinoshita is a rich college student who just got dumped after one month of dating. Full of jealousy and loneliness, he decides to use a rental girlfriend service with his parent’s money. After complaining for receiving the service he knowingly asked for, he gets to know the fake girl better, and by happenstance brings her to his family, who now believe he actually has a girlfriend.
Kakushi Goto is a loving father of a young daughter. He tries his best to give her a good life despite the loss of her mother at some point in the past. However, the one thing he doesn’t want for her is to discover his embarrassing secret: he’s actually a famous author of ecchi manga.
The decade makes us look back and see how we’ve changed these last ten years. When we started the GLORIO Blog over seven years ago, I was billed as the “romance guy”. I still keep that in remembrance in the many awards of my Year End Post. Yet, I can’t help but notice how my tastes have changed over the decade. While I still enjoy a good romance show, my real passion is for good comedies, the kind of shows you can only get from the unique strengths of animation and Japanese sensibilities.
Ciao tutti, while my living situation has been certainly interesting over the past year, 2019 will go down in history as a pretty bad year for anime. I barely watched any comedies or romances, and even the ones I did were not all bangers. Thankfully, we still got a few diamonds in the rough.
Some girl wants to be average and everything about show is terrible.
Mizuki Hijiri is just a normal girl with conjunctivitis or something. She’s just transferred to a new school and has caught the interest of a notorious group of delusional do-gooders. Despite their immature behaviors, it seems they may be on to something when Mizuki comes under attack.
Yoshida Yuko is a meek girl in the grips of poverty (trust me, that is somehow relevant to the plot of this comedy) who is descended from a bloodline of demons. She has awakened the ability to revive her family’s true power, but first she must murder a magical girl.
Keiki is a bland nice guy who wants a girlfriend but can’t man up enough to just ask out any of the three girls he’s literally spent all year with. Prompted by something stupid, he finds out his senpai probably needs some therapy.
Some loser gets trapped in his game at midnight because it’s not like THAT’S LITERALLY THE SAME PLOT AS ANOTHER ISEKAI. Granted, this has the added benefit of being SOMEHOW EVEN MORE TRASH. Shocker, I know.
Robby Yarge is a man with a weakness for women. This has led him into untold amounts of debt on get-rich-quick schemes. A chance meeting with Hachi Kita brings both characters to reflect on the nature of predictability. Later, it turns out Hachi is working for the very debt collector that is after Robby. After that point any semblance of reason is abandoned and it’s really dumb.
Tohru Honda is a hard-working girl with a tragic past. After her already tenuous living situation becomes upended, she starts living in a tent in the woods. She happens to set up camp in the land of the Soma family, including her classmate Yuki. After finding out about their situation, they decide to take her into their home, and Tohru quickly finds out Soma family has a bizarre secret.
Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane like each other, but their personalities have caused them to be trapped by their collective embarrassment and egos into an incredibly ludicrous game of romantic brinkmanship. It’s pretty darn cute.
Uesugi Fuutarou is your usual misanthropic nobody, incredibly smart but caring for nothing but the cost/benefit analysis of his day to day existence. In order to help his struggling family out of debt, he agrees to be a tutor to the wealthy Nakano family. In what clearly seems like the set up to a visual novel considering this is based off of a manga, to his chagrin, he finds out he actually has to tutor five (identical?) sisters at the same time, and none of them are particularly interested in his services.
After defeating the members of Claw, Mob goes back to his normal high school life. When the newspaper girl Mezato eggs him into running for student council president, Mob finds his own way to realize growth in his life.
It’s certainly been a long year everyone, but thankfully the top-notch anime we’ve gotten to see this year has made the tumultuous time a bit more tolerable.
Itsuki Yuge is brought by his cousin Mahiru to his schools rooftop to reveal her secret: She’s pregnant. When they then get transported to an alternate world and her baby turns out to be a demon, it becomes Itsuki’s destiny to bone the zodiac. This is actually what happened.
Akari is an unhinged japanese school girl that really loves dolls. In searching for an urban legend about a living doll, she runs into Sophia, a loli vampire who happens to just casually tell people she’s a vampire.
Haru is a genki girl who’s been recruited to become a space fisher after a dumb plot development where the global fish stock disappeared in one day… somehow. She gets wrapped up in a dumb gender dispute and goes on a dumb space fishing expedition, where apparently it was decided to be a good(dumb) idea to make space fish mutant giants who actively try to kill people. Did I remember to say this was dumb? It was really, really dumb.
Sakuta Azusagawa is minding his own business in a library when he notices the celebrity senior in his school parading around in a bunny girl costume. He finds out that he is the only person that can see her outside of the school. After proving this phenomenon real, Sakuta reveals it might be linked to a rumored Adolescence Syndrome which affected his own sister.
Subaru is a famous and talented party in the popular MMO Union secretly made out of six elementary school friends…for some reason. They take down tough raid bosses despite the risk of character permadeath. After a raid, one girl in the group dies,
